Five Ways to Shift your Mood

Have you ever been a funk that feels like never ending doom? Yeah… me neither. ;)

But really… it feels like I spent the last month constantly digging my way out of my own shit. So much heavy energy, emotions, stories, and I felt it all. Can you relate?

When days/weeks like this happen, I try to always turn to the tools that work for me and help get me out of my funk and face whatever it is I need to face.

Growing up I was never taught to face my feelings. I grew up in the generation of “stop crying”. We shoved emotions and any type of feelings down over and over again.

So here I am today and I see emotions much different! Although facing them isn’t the most fun, I do see it as a gift. When emotions come up, often time’s it is our body speaking to us. Bringing up something we need to move through. It is coming up to come out.

Now that gets me to the tools. We don’t have to stay stuck, even if it feels good or eaasy. Using these tools is a great way to move energy, to process any stagnant or stuck emotions and/or stories coming up.

Here are my five favorite tools for the BEST mood boost:

1. Get sunshine: the sun is straight up medicine. It is healing. It brings me to life! Getting a few minutes of sun can improve mood massively!

2. Move your body: it’s no secret that moving the body can have a myriad of amazing effects. Something as simple as walking can help you move energy, can help boost your mood and for me, it helps me see everything so much more clear!

3. Journal: Journaling isn’t something I do super often, and every time I do I see a shift in my mood. I use journaling during the times when I need to really dump everything out so I can see more clearly. Every time I get out my feelings, everything coming up and how I feel in those hard moments, I feel so much better! It’s a simple task that can make big waves!

4. Meditate: Meditating is simply quieting the monkey brain and connecting with your body. To breath and sit with the feelings that are coming up has always felt so empowering to me. Not easy by any means, but it helps me when I can slow down and shut the monkey brain up!
