Social Media Self Care

Social media is something that wasn’t even a thing just 16 years ago. This is NEW which means we are navigating something completely different than even our parents and grandparents did. Wild right?!

Self care is so important in general for so may ways, so today I want to share how I practice self care via social media! These are a few suggestions that have really helped me set boundaries and use social media more intentionally!

  1. Curate a feed that inspires you, that you learn from and adds to your life. If your feed is stressing you out, uninspiring or feels yuck, that is your doing!

  2. And with that being said, unfollow any account that doesn’t inspire you, make you feel your best or doesn’t add value to your life. Yes this includes family and friends. I used to follow over 1000 people and now I follow 240-ish. Unfollowing accounts is nothing personal to anyone. Your mental health and well-being comes first.

  3. Turn all social media notifications OFF! I did this two years ago and it changed my life! You can also delete the apps from your home screen if you find yourself hitting them for no reason. This will make it so you have to search for them and it’s more intentional vs out of habit!

  4. Take time off social media. My husband and I started “no social Saturdays” recently and we also don’t use our phones from 6-8 every night. Game changer. It’s helped us be even more present, more intentional and it allows us to focus on experiences more!

  5. Create an awareness of your social media habits. Do you get on social media to avoid tasks? To numb out? Just because? It’s easy to get stuck in the scroll hole. I like to be intentional with my time on social media and then get off. I’m still a work In process with this but being aware of WHY, is a huge start!

  6. Last, pick which social channels you love the most and skip the rest. There are tons of social apps that you can participate in. You don’t need to be apart of every single one. Pick a few of your favorites that you genuinely enjoy and stick to those. Less is more!

I hope some of these tips have helped you on your journey to find more balance and intentionality in your life!
